Jerusalem: After an Israeli woman, who was a former guard at maximum security prison, alleged that a Palestinian inmate repeatedly raped her, Prime Minister Yair Lapid promised a probe into the matter. The woman also said that she went through the ordeal after her superiors were forced to work as a "sex slave", Agence France-Presse reported.
There were several reports in Israeli media that female guards were being abused by inmates in Gilboa prison for years.
Last year, many accounts of women surfaced alleging that male supervisors ordered female guards to play as sex slaves to inmates, and Israeli media called the revelations Gilboa Pimping Affair.
The new allegation surfaced last week after the woman posted online the ordeal she had gone through.
She alleged that her superiors handed her over to the Palestinian prisoner as his "private sex slave".
She lamented that she didn't want to be raped or violated again and again. Later her lawyer affirmed the anonymous woman's account on an Israeli TV channel. The lawyer added that her client needs mental support after going through the ordeal.
The PM reacted to the revelation while addressing the cabinet on Sunday. He said that it could not be tolerated that a soldier was raped by a terrorist in her line of duty. The incident will be investigated, and it will be ensured that the woman received assistance, PM Lapid said.
On Sunday, Internal Security Minister Omer Barlev said in a separate statement that the incident that happened a few years ago in Gilboa prison had shaken the Israeli citizens.
Lapid further said that details regarding the case were put under a gag order. He was holding discussions Israel Prison Service (IPS) to ensure not repeat such incidents again.
Israel houses many of its Palestinian prisoners, who allegedly attacked Israelis, in the Gilboa prison, located in northern Israel.
