Israel holds mock-drill for long-range striking aircrafts

Jerusalem: Israel had dozens of its aircraft flying in a mock drill that simulated airstrikes on long-range targets, the country's military informed on Wednesday. The statement gives the implication of a possible attack on Iran, Associated Press reported.

According to the Israeli army, an airspace exercise took place a day long over the Mediterranean sea. The aircrafts performed long-range flight, aerial fueling and striking distant targets.

The army's proclamation comes when world powers have been negotiating with Iran for months to bring up a deal to respawn the failed 2015 nuclear deal. The 2015 deal had collapsed after four years when the Trump administration in the US withdrew from it and imposed sanctions on Iran.

For Israel, Iran is a great threat, and it had vehemently opposed the nuclear deal, the 2015 JCPOA accords, signed by Iran and world powers. The agreement mandates Iran not to accumulate nuclear potential or develop weapons on the same. Israel, however, opposed the deal saying that it does not have enough terms and conditions to keep Iran from weapons developing capabilities or address the military threat Iran poses in the region. Israel said it opposes the return to a new nuclear deal.

Meanwhile, Iran has stated that its nuclear programme only has peaceful intentions.

As per known facts, Israel is the only Middle Eastern nation which is nuclear-armed, though it has never acknowledged the same. AP reports that the latest airforce drill is a part of a larger month-long military exercise with combat simulations.
