Indian-origin man buries alive her ex-girlfriend in Australia, court heard

Flinders Ranges/ Australia: The 21-year-old nursing student from India, whose body was found in a shallow grave in Australia’s Flinders Ranges in March 2021, was buried alive by her ex-boyfriend, reports say.

9News reported citing a court hearing that Jasmeen Kaur’s killer Tarikjot Singh, who pleaded guilty to the crime this year, allegedly kidnapped and killed her in an "act of vengeance".

Police later found out the body from a shallow grave where he had dumped her blindfolded, limbs bound with cable ties and gaffer tape.

Prosecutors told the court that Singh had it all planned following their breakup.

Kaur's mother Rashpaul reportedly said that her daughter refused Singh ‘one hundred times’ even as he was obsessed with her.

A furious Singh kidnapped Kaur from Adelaide where she worked and drove, stowing her in the boot of the car, for four hours.

Prosecutor Carmen Matteo said there was ‘uncommon level of cruelty’ in the murder adding that ‘She had to have been consciously suffering what could only be described as the absolute terror of breathing in and swallowing soil and dying in that way’.

Kaur’s mother in a victim impact statement said that her daughter spent the last hours on earth with the worst of humanity and there was no one to rescue her, adding that ‘I am heartbroken, she was a precious little girl’.

Kaur said she would never forgive her daughter’s killer and reports say that Singh is likely to be jailed for life.
