Ottawa: A Canadian woman who tried for job at a Canadian restaurant chain alleged discriminatory practices in hiring favouring Indians.
The X post shared by Klaus Arminius alleged that Tim Hortons, a Canadian multinational coffeehouse and restaurant chain, favoured Indian immigrants.
The woman claimed that she was fired from the company for speaking out against discriminatory hiring practices.
The post, which received more than 4.5 million views, alleged that Indian managers exclusively hired fellow Indian immigrants.
She claimed that her concerns were dismissed when she confronted the management.
The post comes at a time when the Trudeau government is tightening restrictions on immigration amid growing concerns of surge in immigrants in the country.
The woman’s allegation has led to debate online about fevouritism in hiring with some favouring qualified immigrants getting a fair chance.
However, many others raised concerns about the implications of favouritism.
Despite the raging debate, Tim Hortons has yet to comment on the allegations.
One user responded to the post saying '’You can't blame immigrants for getting jobs. If they're qualified, they deserve a chance just like anyone else’.
Another user narrated an incident involving an Indian manager at a Walmart store. After the manager began hiring, the store become mostly Indians where it was previously a mix of people.
A fourth person said that 'It's a shame that speaking up led to her losing her job. Everyone deserves a voice.’
