United Nations: India has called for an end to hostilities in Ukraine and Gaza, expressing support for any initiative aimed at restoring peace.

Speaking at the General Debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said conflicts have far-reaching consequences even for nations not directly involved. “Each one of us has the opportunity of contributing to peace and prosperity. In the case of conflicts, especially Ukraine and Gaza, even those not directly involved have felt its impact,” he told world leaders.

He urged nations capable of engaging all sides to “step up in the search for solutions” and reiterated that “India calls for an end to hostilities and will support any initiative that will help restore peace”.

Jaishankar stressed that while global attention is fixed on the wars in Ukraine and West Asia, many other conflict zones remain overlooked. He noted that energy and food security had become “Energy and food security have been the first casualties of conflict and disruption, especially since 2022. Better-off societies insulated themselves by having the first call. The resource-stressed ones scrambled to survive, only to hear sanctimonious lectures thereafter”.
