In his speech to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump claimed that China and India are the "primary funders" of the current Russian conflict in Ukraine because they continue to buy Russian oil.
"China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil," he stated.
Trump also accused China and India of using their purchases to finance the war in Ukraine and called on European partners to immediately cease purchasing oil from Russia.
"They have to immediately cease all energy purchases from Russia. Otherwise we're all wasting a lot of time," Trump said of Europe in an address at the UN General Assembly, TNIE reported.
The Trump administration had already placed an additional 25% tax on New Delhi as a penalty for its purchases of Russian oil, bringing the total levy imposed on India by the US to 50%, one of the highest in the world. India has described the tariffs imposed by the United States as "unjustified and unreasonable". New Delhi has stated that, like any large economy, it will take all necessary steps to protect its national interests and economic security. Trump also stated that European friends were going to "hell" because of immigration as he touted his own hardline crackdown.
"It's time to end the failed experiment of open borders," Trump said at the General Assembly.
"Your countries are going to hell," he said, also attacking London's Mayor Sadiq Khan, the first Muslim mayor of a Western capital.
In his speech, Trump also launched a sarcastic attack on the United Nations, claiming that the organisation does not promote peace and mocked the quality of the headquarters building.
"The UN has such tremendous potential. I've always said it -- it has such tremendous, tremendous potential. But it's not even coming close to living up to it," Trump mentioned this during an address in which he complained about a damaged escalator at the New York headquarters.
