New Delhi: Ukraine's foreign minister called upon Indian students who fled the country to return to the nation when it wins the war.
Dmytro Kuleba invited Indians to celebrate Diwali in the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine where, he said, the festival is a part of the local tradition, NDTV reported.
"So come back when we win. In the meantime, pray for Ukraine and support Ukraine by all means available to you." Kuleba reportedly told NDTV.
Kuleba touched on subjects that concern Ukraine when it comes to India's continued buying of Russian oil.
Ukraine's foreign minister termed India's decision to buy Russian oil "morally inappropriate".
The opportunity for India to buy cheap Russian oil "comes from the fact that Ukrainian are suffering from Russian aggression, dying every day. If you benefit because of our suffering, it would be good to see more of your help addressed to us", he reportedly said.
Earlier Indian Foreign minister Dr S Jaishankar stated that European Union imported more Russia oil than 10 countries combined.
Kuleba said Ukraine was waiting for the moment when India will call a spade a spade by naming the conflict a Russian aggression not war.
When Russia invaded Ukraine months ago, thousands of Indian students caught up in the conflict requiring emergency evacuation.
Around 18,000 students mostly pursuing medical courses returned to India in special fights.
They had a hard time staying in bunkers as Russian firepower continued to dismantle cities.
The praiseworthy evacuation organized by the central government made their homecoming possible.
In the thick of the war, a student from Karnataka was killed in shelling.
On returning to India leaving behind their education, these students found themselves facing uncertain future.
From far away they watched Ukraine go to pieces with Russia intensified attack.
