In a live broadcast, US Senator calls for Putin's 'assassination'

Washington: US Senator Lindsey Graham called for President Vladimir Putin's assassination after Russia invaded Ukraine.

The senator asked Sean Hannity on Fox News, "How does this end? Someone in Russia must step up and take him out."

"Only the Russian people have the capability of resolving this," he said later in a series of tweets.

A senator asked, "Does Russia have a Brutus?" referring to Julius Caesar's assassin.

Also, the former presidential candidate wondered if the Russian military had a "more successful Colonel Stauffenberg," referring to the Nazi officer whose bomb missed killing Adolf Hitler in 1944.

"You would be doing your country -- and the world -- a great service," Senator added.

Earlier in the day, the longtime senator who had served in Congress for over 20 years and has often defended former president Trump had introduced a resolution condemning the Russian president and his military commanders for committing "crimes against humanity" and "war crimes".

Approximately 350 civilians have died since Putin started his invasion last week, and over 1 million have fled the country.

In spite of widespread evidence to the contrary, Moscow claims that it does not target civilian areas.
