Paris: The left leader of the New People's Front alliance in France, Jean-Luc Melenchon, reiterated on Monday his commitment to recognise the State of Palestine. He made a statement mentioning that after his coalition victory in the recent French general election, the Anadolu Agency reported,
Melenchon said that there is potential for significant decisions by decree on both national and international fronts. He emphasized that recognition of the State of Palestine would be first among them, and the same would be done as quickly as possible.
Recognizing the State of Palestine was one of the prominent promises the New Popular Front, a bloc of four left parties, made during their campaign. This reflected their stance on international issues and commitment to change in French foreign policy, Anadolu Agency reports.
According to the news agency, the election results point towards the start of a significant shift in the French political landscape, with the Left being expected to influence the future of the country.
The early elections rolled out by President Emmanuel Macron ended up with the New Popular Front securing most of the seats in parliament. The alliance emerged as the leading force in the House with 178 deputies after the second round of voting.
Melenchon leads the largest party in the alliance, France Unbowed. Celebrating victory in the poll, he indicated the alliance's readiness to form a government and asserted that the country would have a prime minister from the New Popular Front.
It is learned that in the closely contested second round, the leftists and Macron supporters tacitly cooperated against the far-right, Anadolu Agency reported.
