Expert predicts millions Covid deaths in China, 60% of the population to get infected

Beijing: As the number of Covid-19 cases increases in China due to easing restrictions, top epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding said 60% of the population is likely to get infected and millions of people are going to die.

He tweeted: "Thermonuclear bad - Hospitals are completely overwhelmed in China ever since restrictions dropped. Epidemiologists estimate >60% of China and 10% of Earth's population are likely infected over the next 90 days. Deaths likely in the millions - plural. This is just the start."

He also said the Chinese Communist Party is prepared to let whoever needs to be infected, infected. Let whoever needs to die, die. "Early infections, early deaths, early peak, early resumption of production," reported ANI.

In recent days, Beijing's designated crematoria for Covid-19 patients have been busy since the restrictions were dropped. However, the official government data has not reported any Covid-deaths since authorities announced four deaths between November 19 and 23. "Since the Covid reopening, we've been overloaded with work. Right now, it's 24 hours a day. We can't keep up," said a crematorium worker to ANI.

According to workers, 30-40 bodies arrive on a typical day. And some days, roughly 200 bodies are brought in. Experts also think the deaths in mainland China are being underreported. Surveys of hospitals, funeral parlors, and related funeral industry chains in the city hint at a sharp increase in deaths.

Most of China's 1.4 billion population remains vulnerable to the virus because they have had limited exposure to it over the past two years. Low vaccination rates and poor investment in emergency care are also factors.
