Donald Trump joins TikTok, which he once sought to ban

New York: Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has joined TikTok, which he tried to ban ahead of the polls last time.

Trump announced his entry by posting last night a campaign video on his account at the platform owned by China-based tech giant ByteDance.

Trump was seen in the video greeting supporters at an Ultimate Fighting Championship fight in Newark, New Jersey.

Meanwhile, tech giant ByteDance has approached US courts against a US law that requires it to sell the platform or face a ban.

The White House on the other hand does not want to ban it but seeks to end its Chinese-based ownership on national security grounds.

TikTok claims it has taken measures to protect privacy of users and will not share user data from US with Chinese government.

Back in 2020, US courts blocked Trump's attempt to ban TikTok in 2020 when he was president.

However, again in March Trump called the platform a national security threat but believed that banning it will ‘hurt’ young people and strengthen Fookbook he had criticised.
