Washington: US President Joe Biden on Saturday unequivocally offered support to Israel as a war erupted in the region following Islamist group Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel.
The pro-Iran group initiated attack just as Biden administration is negotiating a ‘normalization agreement between to Israel, Saudi Arabia’, Reuters reported.
Joe Biden said the US was ready to offer ‘ all appropriate means of support’ to Israel which was caught off-guard by the cataclysmic attack on Saturday morning.
As more reports of devastating war emerge, the US warned that "any other party hostile to Israel" not to take advantage of the situation.
"Israel has a right to defend itself and its people. The United States warns against any other party hostile to Israel seeking advantage in this situation," Biden reportedly said.
Biden reportedly had spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by phone on Saturday offering support.
The conversation comes despite the two leaders have strained relations though they met in New York last month in a show of solidarity, according to the report.
‘I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the government and people of Israel,’ Biden stated after phone call.
