Death toll in Philippines landslide rises to 27, 89 missing

Manila: The death toll from a landslide that hit towns in Davao de Oro province in the southern Philippines this week has risen to 27, with 89 people still missing, authorities said. 

According to an amended statement from the Maco municipal government, 32 people were rescued from a landslide that happened Tuesday night near a mining facility in Maco town and buried numerous buildings as well as two vehicles that shuttle miners from the site, Xinhua news agency reported.

The statement said that at least 89 people remain missing.

A previous report said 15 bodies had been recovered.
