Washington DC: US President-elect Donald Trump announced that he will remove every single illegal immigrant in the country once he assumes office on January 20, 2025.
The former US president warned that if these countries refuse to take them back, he will not do business with them.
Towards this, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement compiled a list of around 1.5 million illegal immigrants who are marked for deportation, and around 18,000 of them are Indians. They are at imminent risk of deportation, India Today reported.
Trump has pledged to carry out the largest deportation in American history, in which he will use military force to expel these immigrants to their mother countries, Hindustan Times reported.
“I’ll get them into every country, or we won’t do business with those countries,” he told the Time magazine’s Person of the Year Interview.
Trump said that he wanted the immigrants out of the US, and if their mother countries won’t take them back, he threatened to tariff them “very substantially”.
He said that when the tariffs are raised, he will ensure that it becomes extremely difficult for those countries who refuse their citizens back to carry out business with the US. When they send products in, they will have substantial tariffs, which will make it very difficult for them to do business with the US, Trump said.
Trump went on to say, “We have criminals coming into our countries that we've never seen, we've never seen before. We have people coming in at levels and at record numbers that we've never seen before.”
He promised that he would use the National Guard and go as far as the laws of the US permit to get rid of illegal immigrants.
