Los Angeles: In California’s Los Angeles in the US, firefighters are working hard to contain the deadly wildfire that has ravaged much of the city since January 7th; however, the fire is spreading to neighbouring areas. About 23,000 acres have already burned, 16 deaths were reported, and 10,000 homes have been destroyed. Helicopters are continuing to douse the fire, which has spread to 1,000 acres more and is now threatening Brentwood.
US Vice President Kamala Harris, Hollywood celebrities like Arnold Schwarzenegger (also a former California governor), Harrison Ford, Dennis Quaid, Disney CEO Bob Iger, NBA star LeBron James, etc., have houses in Brentwood. Residents have been told to evacuate, according to reports. The Hollywood premiere of Schwarzenegger's 'Terminator: Dark Fate' has been cancelled due to the fire in the area. The Getty Center, a hilltop museum that houses more than 125,000 works of art, including masterpieces by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Rubens, Monet and Degas, is in the evacuation zone. The building has not yet been damaged.
LeBron James wrote on social media that these fires were no joke and that he had to evacuate his home.
Officials said the wildfires are expected to intensify again overnight. The Eaton and Palisades fires have caused 11 of the deaths. The second-largest fire, Eaton, has burned more than 14,000 acres and is 15 per cent contained. However, the National Weather Service warned that the dry winds that initially fanned the flames could intensify again by Sunday.
As per reports, Los Angeles witnessed another night of unimaginable terror and heartbreak when two massive fires combined to destroy an area twice the size of Manhattan.
