Industrialist Darshan Singh Sahasi
New Delhi: The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for killing an Indian-origin industrialist based in Abbotsford, alongside firing shots at the house of a Punjabi singer.
Bishnoi gang member Goldy Dhillon announced on social media that the gang was behind the killing of industrialist Darshan Singh Sahasi, NDTV reported.
It is reported that Sahasi was shot dead outside his house in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on Monday morning.
The killing comes a day after Rajasthan police have got the gang’s member Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga arrested in the US.
The gang claimed that Sahasi, 68 was involved in drug business and did not give them money when they demanded, leading to the murder.
The shooter, waiting outside the industrialist’s house, opened fire on Sahasi as soon he got into his car, before fleeing the scene.
Before police arrived, first responders tried to revive Sahasi who was found in critical condition.
At the time of his death, Sahasi was the president of Canam International- a renowned textile recycling company.
Migrating to Canada in 1991, Sahasi initially tried small jobs before acquiring a stake in a struggling textile recycling unit, and transformed it into a global company.
A philanthropic figure, his death has caused grief and outrage within the Punjabi community in Canada.
The house of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan was also targeted with gang member Dhillon claiming that firing was a response to Nattan getting close to singer Sardar Khera.
However, Dhillon said that the gang has no personal enmity with Nattan but warned singers against working with Khera.
Listed as a terrorist entity by Canada, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has more than 700 shooters operating globally.
The high profile cases the gang involved includes the assassination of rapper and politician Sidhu Moosewala and threats to Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
