Biden signs legislation for USD40 billion aid for Ukraine

Seoul: The United States President Joe Biden has signed legislation that will provide an assistance of USD40 billion for conflict-ridden Ukraine. While the war in the country nears its fourth month, the legislation passed through bipartisan support of US Congress, strengthens US's commitment to Ukraine, Associated Press reports.

Though Russia had failed to take Kyiv and now focuses on the eastern parts of Ukraine, US officials caution that the conflict might last long.

The latest funding, so humongous compared to earlier USD13.6 billion, is supposed to support Ukraine through September. It will be provided as USD20 billion for military support, USD8 billion for the general economy, USD5 billion to fill global food shortages- because of the country's agriculture sector crumples, and USD1 billion-plus for refugees. The military assistance would ensure a constant supply of advanced weapons that are keeping Russian troops at Kyiv's bay.

White House informed that Biden signed the legislation during an unusual circumstance: during a trip through Asia. An official brought a copy of the bill to a commercial flight for the President to sign.

AP reports that such a move shows a sense of urgency to pass the legislation and shows US's unwavering support to Ukraine's cause, without mattering international challenges the US faces. Biden, though trying to readjust US's foreign policy to confront China, he continues directing resources to Ukraine, assisting the nation in the largest conflict Europe has witnessed since World War 2.
