Australia's richest person Gina Rinehart chose ten employees to receive an AUD 100,000 Christmas bonus. The recipients are chosen in a random pattern as one of the winners only started working for her three months ago.
The news first broke on Monday when a source told Perth-based 6PR Radio's John Hughes Rumour File that employees at Roy Hill are in the running to win a big Christmas bonus. "Apparently last week Gina told all Roy Hill staff to stand by for an important announcement. She announced the fact that she was going to call 10 names out of a hat. Those names would each receive a $100,000 Christmas bonus."
The very next day the radio station received confirmation when one of the lucky winners called to spill the beans, reported News Corp Australia.
Roy Hill is owned by and is the most valuable asset of Hancock Prospecting. The mining project began shipping to Asia in 2015. Gina Rinehart is the daughter of iron-ore explorer Lang Hancock. She became the executive chairwoman in 1992 and rebuilt her late father's financially troubled company.
One of her companies is also Australia's second-largest cattle producer. Her net worth is AUD 34 billion.
