Amid the continued unrest in Afghanistan, social media giant Twitter on Wednesday said that it will continue to proactively enforce their rules and review content that may violate it's policies against the glorification of violence, platform manipulation and spam.
The microblogging site's spokesperson said that Twitter's first priority is to keep people safe, remain vigilant and also noted that it is witnessing people in the country using Twitter to seek help and assistance.
Twitter's reaction to the ongoing situation came after Taliban's rapid takeover of Afghanistan which poses a fresh set of challenges for social media platforms to curb and monitor content shared by a group considered to be terrorists by various countries and governments.
Earlier on Tuesday, Facebook had said that it has banned the Taliban and all content supporting it from its platforms as it considers the group to be a terrorist organisation, according to a media report.
The company says it has a dedicated team of Afghan experts to monitor and remove content linked to the insurgent group.
Violence surged in Afghanistan after US and NATO troops began to withdraw in May. On Sunday, the Taliban completed their takeover of the country by entering Kabul and causing the civilian government to collapse.
Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday and took control of the presidential palace. Taliban leaders have been discussing future government plans in Doha after gaining control of Kabul, as per a media report.
Panic has gripped the Afghan capital as people fear a return to the Taliban's brutal rule and the threat of reprisal killings. Thousands of Afghans flooded the tarmac on Monday morning, at one point swarming around a departing US military plane as it taxied down the runway.
