54 injured in explosion at mosque in Indonesia’s Jakarta

Several people were hospitalised following an explosion at a mosque located within a school complex in Jakarta’s Kelapa Gading area during Friday prayers, according to local police.

Jakarta city police chief Asep Edi Suheri stated that the cause of the blast remains under investigation.

He added that 54 people sustained injuries of varying severity, including burn wounds, and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, Al Jazeera reported.

Local media footage showed ambulances stationed outside the school and police cordoning off the area. While the mosque’s interior appeared affected, initial images indicated no major structural damage.

Local news channels showed footage of a police line around the school with ambulances standing by. Images of the mosque showed no extensive damage.
