YouTube launches new feature for registered health professionals in India

New Delhi: YouTube on Tuesday announced new features aimed at helping Indian viewers access high-quality health information from healthcare professionals, including registered doctors, nurses, mental health experts, and health information providers.

Building upon its previously introduced health source information panels and content shelves, YouTube is now accepting applications from registered healthcare professionals to make their channels eligible for enhanced health product features. This initiative is designed to connect users with reliable and evidence-based medical content.

Dr. Garth Graham, Director and Head of YouTube Health, highlighted the expansion as a major step toward improving access to authoritative healthcare content. He stated that the initiative will help users easily find and connect with credible information shared by the healthcare community on YouTube.

The new feature also aims to tackle misinformation by offering viewers access to content verified by professionals. Healthcare creators who meet best practice standards set by the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, the National Academy of Medicine, and the World Health Organization, and who maintain a YouTube channel in good standing, can apply.

Applications will be reviewed, and the licenses of healthcare professionals will be verified. Channels that qualify will display health source information panels beneath their videos, identifying them as authoritative sources. Additionally, their content will appear in dedicated health content shelves when users search for related topics.

YouTube is also expanding collaborations with healthcare institutions to develop and amplify credible content on over 140 physical and mental health conditions. This content will be available in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, and English, ensuring accessibility across diverse linguistic groups in India.

The initiative reflects YouTube’s commitment to bridging the gap between audiences and trustworthy health information, making it easier for viewers to access verified, high-quality resources.
