X to reinstate conspiracy theorist Alex Jones's account

San Francisco: Elon Musk informed that X will reinstate the account of US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones after a users' poll on the platform suggested his return, Reuters reported.

Musk posted a reply to the poll on the platform on Saturday, "The people have spoken, and so it shall be."

In the poll, around 2 million votes were cast, and 70 per cent voted in favour of the conspiracy theorist's return.

The account was not restored until early on Sunday.

After Musk assumed ownership of the X, formerly known as Twitter, he restored many suspended accounts, including that of former US President Donald Trump.

The platform banned Jones's account and his website, Infowars, in 2018, citing that the account violated its behaviour policies. Twitter did the ban after Apple, Alphabet's YouTube, and Facebook took down podcasts and channels by Jones. They cited community standards for the action.\

In the Sandy Hook school shooting, Alex Jones promoted the conspiracy theory that the victims were actors. They were staging the shooting, which was a part of the plot by the government to seize American's guns. Last year, Jones was ordered to pay $1.5 billion in damages to relatives of the victims for false claims.

In the December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook school shooting, a man opened fire and killed 26 people.
