WhatsApp to bring "View Once" voice messages soon

San Francisco: Meta is about rolling out a disappearing voice message feature in WhatsApp, allowing users to send voice messages that could be heard only once before they disappear, IANS reported.

WhatsApp already has a similar feature, "View Once", for photos and videos, which was rolled out in 2021. This allows an extra layer of privacy over the messages by users.

"We are excited to announce you can now send a voice message that will disappear once listened to," WhatsApp said in a statement.

You can now also share sensitive information over voice messages with added peace of mind.

For consistency with View Once photos and videos, View Once voice messages are clearly marked with the "one-time" icon and can only be played one time.

"As with all your personal messages, WhatsApp protects your voice messages with end-to-end encryption by default, and View Once is just another example of our continued privacy innovation," said the company.

'View Once' voice messages are rolling out globally over the coming days.

WhatsApp has already introduced a secret code feature for a large section of users. This allows users to set a code for specific chats, different from what they use to unlock their phones. This will give another layer of privacy to their chats.

Last month, WhatsApp started a safety campaign called "Check the Facts." This was in an effort to to raise user knowledge of its safety features and stop the spread of misinformation on the platform. The month-long campaign showcases the built-in product features, safety measures (including block and report) and forward labels (that help users identify false information and stop it from spreading) of the messaging platform owned by Meta.
