Twitter to translate, recommend tweets from various nations, cultures

San Francisco: Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced on Saturday morning that the platform would translate and recommend tweets from various countries and cultures. He said the next update would stop switching users from recommended tweets from their custom settings, NDTV reported.

Further, he added that the upcoming update would make it mandatory for users to use the "For You" algorithmic timeline, IANS reported.

Musk tweeted, "In coming months, Twitter will translate & recommend amazing tweets from people in other countries & cultures. There are epic tweets in other countries every day (Japan especially)."

The tweets will be translated before being recommended.

"Next Twitter update will remember whether you were on For You (ie recommended), Following or list you made & stop switching you back to recommended tweets," IANS quoted his tweet.

It was on Friday, Twitter announced the rollout of "For You" and "Following" tabs updates on Android. The features were added to the web interface and on iOS last week.

TechCrunch reported that Musk had promised a feature allowing users to bookmark tweets on January 8. The micro-blogging platform is adding the same to iOS now.

In its new design, the bookmark option is located under the expanded tweet view, making it easier for users to add a particular post to their bookmarks. Currently available on iOS, it is expected on the web and Android soon.

Earlier in January, Musk announced a series of updates for Twitter. This includes a left-right swipe feature to toggle between recommended and followed tweets, "long-form" tweets etc.
