New Delhi: Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) reported that a new ransomware attack has been reported globally. The virus named 'Egregor' is found breaking into organizations and stealing sensitive data and threatening a mass media release if ransom not paid.
The virus is anticipated to be infiltrating through attachments in spam email or through links shared via email or any other mediums of chats. CERT adviced organizations to avoid opening attachments from unknown mail sources and to maintain a regular backup of the data stored.
Since there is no guarantee that the files will be released, CERT said that, it does not encourage organizations to pay the ransom and instructed organizations to maintain an updated antivirus software on all systems.
The CERT also said to use email validation system which is used to prevent spam by detecting email spoofing in their domain and asked organizations to build their personal firewall in the workstation.
