OpenAI partners with Financial Times to utilize content for AI training

In a move to bolster its AI capabilities, OpenAI has signed a deal with the Financial Times (FT) to license its content for the development of AI models.

This is the latest collaboration for the Microsoft-backed startup in the media industry.

The agreement, announced on Monday, follows similar partnerships by OpenAI with the Associated Press, Axel Springer, Le Monde, and Prisa Media over the past few months. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Under this collaboration, OpenAI will integrate archived content from the FT into its ChatGPT chatbot, enhancing its capabilities to provide users with insightful summaries and responses attributed to the renowned newspaper. The FT and OpenAI will also collaborate on developing new AI products and features tailored for FT readers.

John Ridding, CEO of the FT Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, "We're keen to explore the practical outcomes regarding news sources and AI through this partnership."

ChatGPT, which ignited the GenAI trend in late 2022, simulates human conversation and executes various tasks such as summarizing lengthy texts, composing poetry, and generating ideas for themed events.

Several media outlets are embracing generative AI for content creation. BuzzFeed plans to utilize AI for personality quizzes. The New York Times previously utilized ChatGPT to craft a Valentine's Day message generator.
