New Delhi: Google is making some changes to its search engine in order to make it easier for users to find helpful content. A new update will reduce low-quality and unoriginal content in the search results.
A search ranking update called the "helpful content update" is set to roll out globally to English language users this month.
The new update will ensure that unoriginal, low-quality content doesn't rank highly in Search. This will be particularly applicable for online-educational materials, entertainment, shopping, and tech-related content.
Danny Sullivan, Public Liaison for Search, said the company knows people don't find the content helpful if it seems like it was designed to attract clicks rather than inform readers. "We're rolling out a series of improvements to Search to make it easier for people to find helpful content made specifically by and for people."
Over the past year, Google has been trying to rank better quality product reviews. This is also getting another update in August 2022. The tech giant said these updates are part of a broader, ongoing effort to reduce low-quality content and promote authentic content.
The company clarified that if a user is searching for a movie review, they will be seeing results with unique and authentic information. "So, you are more likely to read something you haven't seen before."
Google has been enrolling a series of updates to give importance to more helpful and in-depth reviews based on first-hand expertise in search results. "We've continued to refine these systems. In the coming weeks, we'll roll out another update to make it even easier to find high-quality, original reviews."
