Mozilla stopped accepting cryptocurrency for donations in the middle of hotshot debates. Mozilla earlier stated that they started accepting bitcoins in 2014 for donations. This triggered an important debate in the tech world. A large chunk of tech activists rallied against this citing the environmental impact.

Transaction of one bitcoin uses 2,106.37 kilowatt-hours of electricity that is approximately equal to the average electricity consumption of American households in 72.2 days.
The Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index provides the statistical details about the rate of consumption per year and as per the records Bitcoin consumes 122.87 Terawatt-hours of electricity every year more than the electricity combustion in the Netherlands, Argentina, or the UAE.
