Microsoft to train AI with LinkedIn user data by default from November 2025

Microsoft-owned LinkedIn will begin using member data to train artificial intelligence models starting from November 3, 2025.

The company confirmed this in new terms of service updates.

It will use profile information and public posts to improve AI-powered features. This data will also be shared with Microsoft and its affiliated companies to boost targeted advertising.

The company says private messages will not be accessed.

LinkedIn stated on its service page, "On Nov. 3, 2025, we’ll start to use some data from members in these regions to train content-generating AI models that enhance your experience and better connect our members to opportunities. This may include data like details from your profile, and public content you post on LinkedIn; it does not include your private messages. We rely on legitimate interest to process your data for this purpose. You can opt out anytime in your settings if you’d prefer not to have your data used in this way."

This policy officially covers users in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, Canada, and Hong Kong. Indian profiles are also included by default. So accounts in India that have not turned off the relevant setting will still contribute to AI model training.

To disable this, users must log in and click their profile photo. Then select “Settings & Privacy.” Under “Data privacy,” open “Data for Generative AI Improvement.” There will be a switch named “Use my data for training content creation AI models.” Turning it off will opt the user out.

Users who are worried about privacy can also remove older posts, delete resumes, and review job application data. This can reduce exposure of sensitive information.
