Instagram rolls out 'Watch History' feature for reels, lets users search by date and creator

Instagram has introduced a new Watch History feature that allows users to revisit Reels they’ve already watched.

The feature works much like YouTube’s Watch History, giving users the ability to search for past Reels based on specific dates or creators.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the rollout on Threads, saying the feature is now available under the Profile tab in the app’s Settings.

Users can access it by tapping the three-line menu at the top-right corner of the screen and selecting Settings > Your activity > Watch history. It appears under the “How you use Instagram” section.

According to Mosseri, Watch History will show all Reels a user has viewed in the past 30 days by default. Users can sort this list from oldest to newest or the other way around. They can also remove specific Reels from their Watch History if they choose to.

The new feature includes three tabs to make searching easier. The first tab lets users sort videos by date order. The second tab introduces more filters for narrowing down search results by time. It is set to “All dates” by default, but users can choose other options such as “Past week” or “Past month.”

In addition, Instagram users can select a specific date range to look for Reels they watched during that period.

A third tab allows users to filter results by the creator of the Reel. If someone remembers who originally posted the video, they can use the “Filter by author” option to locate it quickly.

“So, now hopefully you can find that thing that you were trying to find that you couldn't find before,” Mosseri wrote.

The Watch History feature is already available for both Android and iOS users.
