New Delhi: The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Thursday announced that Passport Verification Records (PVRs) are now available on the DigiLocker platform.
The service, launched in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, allows citizens to access, store, share and digitally verify their Passport Verification Records through DigiLocker’s web portal and mobile application. DigiLocker is a secure, cloud-based platform under the Digital India programme that facilitates the issuance, storage, sharing and verification of digital documents and certificates.
The move aims to simplify document management, reduce dependence on physical records and promote paperless, contactless, citizen-centric service delivery. Once passport verification is completed, citizens will be able to retrieve their PVRs under the “Issued Documents” section of their DigiLocker account.
According to the government, digital access to PVRs is expected to streamline verification processes in sectors such as travel, employment and compliance by cutting down on manual paperwork and saving time for both citizens and institutions that rely on verified passport records. The PVRs made available via DigiLocker are issued in digital form directly by the relevant government systems, ensuring authenticity, integrity and protection against tampering, in line with DigiLocker’s secure architecture.
Citizens will also be able to share their PVRs digitally with authorised entities through DigiLocker, enabling instant, consent-based access and verification and reducing the need for attested photocopies or repeated physical submissions. The integration of PVRs with DigiLocker is being projected as a major step in modernising citizen services and strengthening India’s digital public infrastructure, while reinforcing a ‘citizen-first’ approach and enhancing transparency and trust in government processes.
