Google Phone app's new Caller ID feature will announce who is ringing

San Fransisco: People with an Android device and Google Phone app will now be able to hear who is calling when the phone rings.

According to 9to5Google, the company is rolling out a new feature for its Phone app that will announce the name and number of any incoming calls a move to help users screen unwanted calls, the new basic addition that many users were waiting for.

The new feature will be helpful especially for visually impaired people because it will announce the name and number of any incoming calls helping them decide whether the call is important and relevant without attending it, the report said.

Though other OEMs also have introduced their alternatives, this new feature of the Google Phoe app is noteworthy as it is becoming the default dialer for many Andriod phones and available to all Android devices.

Avoiding the unexpected interruption of listening to music or general audio due to the random incoming calls, the new addition to the Google Phone app might be handy for many of the users, it further added.

To enable the new feature you can open Google Phone > Settings > Caller ID announcement. The "Announce caller ID" is disabled by default but you can choose between "Always," "Only when using a headset," or "Never". In conjunction with the blocking options, this should help you manage unwanted calls with much more precision.

Apart from this, some of the popular features that the Google Phone app has included call recording, spam protection, know who is calling you, visual voicemail, screen unknown callers among others.
