Elon Musk claims Grokipedia will outpace Wikipedia in scale and accuracy

New Delhi: Elon Musk has declared that Grokipedia, his new AI-powered encyclopedia, will surpass Wikipedia “by several orders of magnitude” in breadth, depth and accuracy. The statement was made in response to a user on his social media platform X.

Grokipedia is developed by xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company and the creator of the chatbot Grok. Musk described the platform as a “massive improvement over Wikipedia”, aligning with xAI’s mission to enhance human understanding of the universe.

The concept was proposed last month by Musk’s associate David Sacks, who also advises US President Donald Trump on AI and cryptocurrency. Musk endorsed the idea, arguing that an AI-generated encyclopedia could eliminate human bias and political influence in information dissemination.

Grokipedia presents users with articles “fact-checked by Grok”, complete with timestamps indicating the last update. Unlike Wikipedia, it does not allow public editing; users can only suggest changes or report errors via a feedback form.

Currently, some Grokipedia entries carry disclaimers noting they were adapted from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License. Musk has stated that this reliance will end by year’s end.

The platform reportedly hosts 885,279 articles, with rapid expansion expected. Musk also confirmed that Grokipedia’s underlying AI is open source, enabling public access and scrutiny.

Grokipedia is presently accessible via web browser, with no mobile app announced for Android or iOS.
