Disney launches robot capable of imitating facial expressions

Generally humanoid robots empahsize on a human face in a still position but that's not the way people interact with each other. This new robot from Disney can imitate human facial movements and head movements, especially blinking. The human way of gaze, nodding and blinking of the robot seems to be creepy and impressive at the same time.

According to Gizmodo,the new robot from Disney is an impressive feat of robotics. The robot was developed by engineers at Disney's Research division, Walt Disney Imagineering, and robotics researchers from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and the California Institute of Technology.

Disney Research explained in its paper 'Realistic and Interactive Robot Gaze, "Gaze has been shown to be a key social signal, shaping perceptions of interaction partners.

Being an animation establishment, people are startled to see such a nightmare stuff from Disney. This technology is expected to be used for animatronic characters at its theme parks in Florida, California, France, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Shanghai.

Disney followers are excited in the creation of an animatronic Spider-Man, made to swing above the rooftops of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure.

Thus stunning animatronic characters are found in many of the Disney's theme park rides, but are already scripted and have non interactive movements. This new robot have the ability to identify the people around it and show an appropriate response with its terrifying human eyes which appear to be more lifelike.
