San Francisco: Social media giant Twitter announced shutting of its offices in New York and San Francisco after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued fresh guidelines, reports IANS. Twitter's spokesperson said that it is pausing the reopening of other offices too. The closed offices were reopened only two weeks ago.
The spokesperson said that they are keeping their close monitoring of local conditions and will make necessary changes for the health and safety of their 'Tweeps'- or users of Twitter.
It was barely three months ago that, CDC had suggested vaccinated people no longer needed to wear masks. Now, in its new guidelines, it recommends people resume wearing masks as the Delta variant is surging. It suggests that people in high transmission communities wear masks in indoor public spaces, even though they are vaccinated. It stressed the practice on vulnerable household members such as young children and those who are immuno-compromised.
Taking cognizance of the guidelines, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that the company would require employees to be vaccinated before returning to the office. Apple directed its customers and staff to wear masks even if they are vaccinated. Facebook and Amazon also confirmed their policies of vaccination and wearing masks. Netflix also directed its US employees, cast and crews on its productions in the US to be vaccinated.
