New Delhi: With a score of 7-6(7-3), 6-2, the 26 year old Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal defeated Gabriel Diallo of Canada in his Miami Open qualifying match debut.
Nagal moved on to the final qualifying round on Monday night with a victory over Coleman Wong, a 19-year-old from Hong Kong, whom he had previously beaten in two straight sets at the ATP Bengaluru Challenger.
Nagal won the opening set tiebreaker after he saved a break point in the seventh game of the match. He dominated and broke Diallo in the opening and seventh games of the second set.
In his last tournament after Rafael Nadal's last-minute withdrawal from the Indian Wells tournament, Nagal advanced to the main draw but lost to Milos Raonic.
After Nagal’s win in the ATP live rankings, the match is probably going to take him to a new career-high ranking of world No. 92.
Nagal, broke into the world's top 100 last month after winning the Chennai Open.
