Roshibina Devi claims silver in women’s 60kg wushu at Asian Games

Nagoya: India’s Roshibina Devi won the silver medal in the women’s 60kg wushu event at the Asian Games 2026 after losing to China’s Xiaoyu Zhang in the final here on Thursday.

The medal was Roshibina’s third at the Asian Games. She had won bronze at the 2018 edition in Jakarta before claiming silver at the 2023 Games in Hangzhou.

Roshibina’s silver took India’s overall medal tally in wushu at the Asian Games to 11, including one gold, two silver and eight bronze medals. India have won 14 medals so far at the 2026 Games, one gold, six silver and seven bronze.

The Manipuri athlete defeated Macao’s Chu Man Sin 5-0 in the quarterfinals before beating Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semifinals. However, she lost 0-2 to Zhang in the gold-medal bout.

Hailing from a farming family in Kwasiphai village in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, Roshibina trains in the women’s sanda 60kg category at the Sports Authority of India’s National Centre of Excellence in Imphal under coach Maibam Premkumar Singh.

One of India’s most decorated wushu athletes, Roshibina has received the Arjuna Award and was named the International Wushu Federation’s Female Wushu Athlete of the Year in the sanda category.

She was initially left out of India’s seven-member wushu squad after losing to Divyanshi Choudhary in the selection trials. However, Roshibina was included in the team after Divyanshi was ruled out with an injury.

Divyanshi later alleged foul play, claiming she was fit to compete and accusing the federation of favouring Roshibina, who had initially finished fourth in the trials.
