Sprinter Hima Das gets inducted into Assam Police Force

Sprinter Hima Das was inducted into the Assam Police force as a Deputy Superintendent on Friday. The Arjuna awardee's induction took place in the presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and the appointment was under the Integrated Sports Policy of the state government.

"The state government appointed sprinter Hima Das as DSP in the Assam Police because she has made the state proud with her achievements in the national and international sporting arena," CM Sonowal said.

The state government's top functionaries attended the ceremony held at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, where the CM distributed appointment letters to 597 newly recruited sub-inspectors.

Hima expressed her gratitude to the CM, state minister Himanta Biswa and union sports minister Kiren Rijiju in her tweet. She also added that her induction was a dream that came true.

ADGP Harmeet Singh of Assam Police responded that Hima's induction into the force is a morale booster. He said she was a brand ambassador over time for various aspects of the state, including social issues. He added that the state wants her to continue training hard and perform well in the Tokyo Olympics.

Born in Kandhulimari village of Nagaon district in Assam, Hima Das won many accolades and medals in athletic meets like the 2018 World U-20 Championships in Finland and Asian Games. She also bagged five gold medals in various meets in 2019.

Hima, nicknamed "Dhing Express", was conferred Arjuna Award, India's highest sporting award, in 2018.
