Day 5 of the Paris Paralympics turned out to be a remarkable one for India, with athletes bringing home eight medals, including two golds.
Sumit Antil and Nitesh Kumar led the charge, ensuring a memorable day for the Indian contingent.
Sumit Antil, the star javelin thrower, continued his dominance in the F64 category by winning gold and breaking the Paralympics record twice. His best throw of 70.59 meters not only secured him the top spot but also set a new benchmark in the event. Antil, who had previously set a Paralympics record of 68.55 meters in Tokyo, surpassed his own mark on his very first attempt in Paris, throwing 69.11 meters. He then broke his own record again with a stunning 70.59-meter throw, firmly establishing himself as the leader in the competition.
Earlier in the day, para-badminton star Nitesh Kumar added to India's gold tally by winning the Men's Singles SL3 final. His victory marked India's second gold of the day. The badminton courts also saw more Indian success, with Suhas Yathiraj (SL4) and Thulasimathi Murugesan (SU5) earning silver medals, while Manisha Ramadass (SU5) claimed bronze.
In para archery, Sheetal Devi and veteran Rakesh Kumar secured a bronze medal in the Mixed Team Compound Event, showcasing India's growing strength in the sport. Meanwhile, Yogesh Kathuniya opened India's medal count for the day with a silver in the Men's Discus Throw F56 final.
