Neeraj Chopra wins gold in Kuortane Games

Finland: Indian Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, the javelin thrower, won the gold medal at the Kuortane Games 2022 in Finland on Saturday, registering 86.69m in his first attempt. He bypassed Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott and Grenada's Anderson Peters, NDTV reported.

Chopra made the length in his first throw itself, and when he made two foul throws after, he decided not to use the last three throws. For the first Indian to win a gold medal in Olympic athletics, this was only the second competition since the Tokyo Olympics.

His rivals, Walcott and Peters, finished 86.64m and 84.75m, respectively.

Earlier in the week, Chopra won the silver medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games, when he also broke his own national record with a throw of 89.30m.

Earlier this week, Chopra rewrote his own national record with an 89.30m and won the silver at the Paavo Nurmi Games. He will compete in the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League on June 30, NDTV reports.
