Global Tent Pegging: debutants Indian women win bronze

New Delhi: The Indian women's team grabs the bronze in its debut Women's International Tent Pegging Championship, held in Jordan, IANS reported.

The women trio captain Ritika Dahia, Priyanka Bhardwaj and Khushi Singh brought the honour to India from the prestigious event.

In the tournament, where 14 countries competed, Indian women gathered 136 points and finished behind gold medal winners South Africa and Oman. South Africa won 170.5 points while Oman 146.

Dahiya and Bhardwaj competed in the individual and pairs lance event on Day one, finishing seventh on the day. On day two, the team competed in individual and team sword events and claimed the second position with 24 points. Also, Kushi Singh won the first position with 18 points in the individual event on Day 2.

The second day pushed India to the fourth position in the overall table.

Day three saw India finishing second after the team competed in the ring, peg and sword event. The consistent performance by the trio brought India to the third position after Day 3 in the overall table. Thus they won the historic bronze at their debut International Tent Pegging Federation event.
