Doha: Poland defeated Saudi Arabia by two uncontested goals in the second match of Group C of the FIFA World Cup 2022, at the Education City Stadium in Qatar, on Saturday.
In the Group-C match, Piotr Zieliński (39 mins) and Robert Lewandowski (82 mins) scored the goals for the Polish team. Piotr Zieliński gave the first blow to Saudi Arabia, who came out with the hope of knock-out after the legendary victory against Argentina. A beautiful goal was scored in the 39th minute through Lewandowski's pass. Saudi Arabia had a penalty opportunity in the 46th minute to equalize the score. However, captain Salem Aldawsari missed the target. The ball hit the goalie's hand, and the rebound hit the post by Mohammed Alburayk, but the excellent saving of the goalkeeper Szczęsny helped the Polish team to fight back at the beginning of the second half.
Despite Saudi's best efforts, nothing worked in front of the Polish defence. In the 82nd minute, Lewandowski took advantage of a mistake by a Saudi defender to give Poland the second goal. Tired of being held to a goalless draw by Mexico in the first game, Poland needed a win today. But, on the other hand, Saudi had tried in a life-and-death battle to secure the pre-quarters. In the first half, the Saudis kept the ball in their hands and fired at the Polish net several times. Saudi made excellent progress. The performance of the defence and midfield was the safety for Poland.
