Doha: Following a string of unpleasant events that marred their hot-tempered World Cup quarterfinal, FIFA confirmed on Saturday that it has begun disciplinary proceedings against Argentina and the Netherlands.
As Argentina defeated the Netherlands 4-3 on penalties Friday at Lusail Stadium following a 2-2 draw, a World Cup record 18 yellow cards were shown.
As the Dutch overcame a two-goal deficit to force extra time, the game featured numerous large clashes and tense exchanges.
According to a statement from FIFA, the allegations against the Argentina football federation centre upon player and staff misconduct as well as "order and security at matches."
A probe will also be launched into the Dutch team's actions.
