Ancelotti celebrates Real Madrid's FIFA Intercontinental Cup victory

Qatar: Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti celebrated a remarkable end to 2024 as his team lifted the FIFA Intercontinental Cup at Lusail Stadium in Qatar, defeating Pachuca 3-0 in the final. The victory capped off a stellar year for the Spanish giants, who claimed five trophies during the calendar year.

Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction with the result, attributing the team’s success to meticulous preparation. He highlighted that the players executed their plans effectively, which made a difference in the game. Reflecting on the challenges of playing midseason, he noted that while such matches could pose problems, Real Madrid deservedly emerged victorious with an impressive performance.

The goals, scored by Kylian Mbappe, Rodrygo, and Vinicius Jr., showcased Real Madrid’s attacking quality. Ancelotti acknowledged that the team faced initial difficulties in activating the forward players but praised the incredible quality of his attacking quartet once the team began moving the ball cleanly and launching effective attacks.

This victory marked Ancelotti’s 15th title with Real Madrid. Sharing credit with the club and his players, he remarked that winning titles at Real Madrid is simpler due to the exceptional talent within the squad. He humorously added that he was unsure where his statue would be placed but left it to the club to decide.

The final also witnessed individual accolades for Real Madrid players, with Vinicius Junior receiving the Player of the Tournament award and the Golden Ball. At the same time, Federico Valverde claimed the Adidas Silver Ball.

Vinicius Jr.’s contributions added another highlight to a historic week for the Brazilian forward. He was named 'The Best FIFA Men’s Player' for the first time just a day before the final, a recognition of his outstanding performances throughout the 2023/24 season. Overwhelmed by the achievements, he described the past two days as incredible and expressed happiness at winning another individual award, dedicating it to his family for their unwavering support.

Valverde, too, expressed gratitude for his Silver Ball award, dedicating it to his family, who had supported him throughout his career.

Real Madrid’s latest triumph underscored their dominance on the global stage, adding another chapter to their illustrious history.
