Cricket: Indian cricket and veteran opener Murali Vijay told the weekly Sportstar that he is done with BCCI, which controls cricket in India, and wanted to replant himself somewhere abroad where his game is demanded, and he could play "competitive cricket.
Murali Vijay has played 61 tests, 17 ODIs and Nine T20Is for India, scoring 3982 runs, 339 runs and 169 runs, respectively. The 38-year-old last played representing India in 2018 in a test match against Australia in Perth. He recently played Tamil Nadu Premier League.
Vijay is of the view that it could be his age that is hindering his career now, not getting chances in Indian cricket.
He told Sportstar that he is almost done with the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). For India, cricketers after 30 are taboo. Indians see them as "80-year-olds walking on the street."
Stating that he doesn't want any controversy, he said that the media should address the issue differently.
According to him, it is in the thirties when players peak. "I can bat the way I bat now. But unfortunately or fortunately, the opportunities are less, and I have to search for my opportunities outside," NDTV quotes what he told Sportstar.
He believes that it might have become different if he got as much backing as Virender Sehwag got.
NDTV reports that Murali Vijay was removed from the Tamil Nadu team for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2020. Recently he participated in an amateur golf tournament, the Chennai Open Gold Championship.
