Rain: India takes training indoors ahead of ODI against Windies

Port of Spain: Rain forces the Indian cricket squad to train in indoor nets before the first ODI against West Indies on Friday. The Indian squad will be led by opener Shikhar Dhawan in the three-match ODI series.

"As we have just come from the UK, we thought that it would be nice to have an (outdoor) practice session. But it started raining. So, it's always better to have a knock in the indoor facilities rather than having no session," opener Shubman Gill said in a video posted by BCCI on Twitter, PTI reported.

Gill added, "It was a good session as we got to do some specific things like playing underarm balls. I am feeling great, and we all are really excited and really buzzed about these three ODIs. We feel that it would be a good series."

After regular skipper Rohit Sharma was rested, Dhawan, who earlier led India to Sri Lanka for an ODI series last year, took the reins. Senior batter Virat Kohli, young blaster Rishabh Pant, all-rounder Hardik Pandya and senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami were rested.

However, this has opened slots for Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan to perform. Batter KL Rahul has been included into the team after recovering from an injury. The 30-year-old got injured in the T20I against South Africa in June.
