Pakistan’s Sidra Amin reprimanded for ICC code of conduct breach vs India

Colombo: Pakistan batter Sidra Amin has been reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during her team’s recent ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup match against India at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Sidra violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.” As it was her first offence within a 24-month period, one demerit point has been added to her disciplinary record.

The incident occurred when Sidra forcefully struck her bat on the pitch after being dismissed in the 40th over. She admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandré Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing. The charge was issued by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Nimali Perera, along with third umpire Kerrin Klaaste and fourth umpire Kim Cotton.

Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a maximum of 50% of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

During the match, Sidra played a standout innings, top-scoring for Pakistan with 81 runs off 106 balls. Batting on a challenging surface, she anchored the innings despite regular fall of wickets at the other end. In the fifth over, Sidra walked out to bat and held the innings together until her dismissal in the 40th over. She fell to India’s Sneh Rana, who bowled a full delivery on off; Sidra attempted a sweep to square leg but edged it straight to India captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who completed a fine catch.

Sidra’s innings was the only notable performance from the Pakistani side as they suffered an 88-run defeat to arch-rivals India.
