Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has achieved a significant career milestone by reaching 400 wickets in international cricket, becoming the tenth Indian bowler to do so.
Bumrah accomplished this feat during India's first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai, where he took 4 wickets for 50 runs in 11 overs, helping restrict Bangladesh's innings.
In his international career spanning 196 matches, Bumrah has now claimed 401 wickets at an impressive average of 21.01, with his best bowling figures standing at 6 for 19. He is the sixth Indian pacer to reach the 400-wicket mark. His Test record includes 163 wickets from 37 matches at an average of 20.49, featuring 10 five-wicket hauls.
In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Bumrah has taken 149 wickets in 89 matches, averaging 23.55, while in T20 Internationals, he has claimed 89 wickets from 70 matches at an average of 17.74. The top three wicket-takers for India in international cricket remain Anil Kumble (953 wickets), Ravichandran Ashwin (744 wickets), and Harbhajan Singh (707 wickets).
In the ongoing match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first. India faced early setbacks, collapsing to 34 for 3. However, a partnership between opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 56, and Rishabh Pant, who contributed 39, helped stabilize the innings. Following a middle-order collapse, Ravichandran Ashwin scored 113 and partnered with Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 86, to lift India to a total of 376 runs.
For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud was the standout bowler with figures of 5 for 83, while Taskin Ahmed took 3 wickets for 55 runs. In their first innings, Bangladesh struggled against the Indian bowling attack, with notable contributions from Shakib Al Hasan (32) and Litton Das (22), but they were unable to mount a significant challenge.
