IPL to return in 2023 with Home and Away matches

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) will have its original format of fixtures, that is, with Home and Away matches, from the 2023 season, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told state associations in a letter, IANS reported.

The Covid-19 outbreak had forced the tournament outside India or in limited venues inside the country for the last three seasons.

Now the pandemic situation is improving, the tournament will return with each team playing one home match as well as an away one.

Ganguly said, "The next season of men's IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all ten teams playing their home matches at their designated venues."

Further, the letter talked about the ongoing domestic season.

"I am happy to share with you that we are going back to normalcy. You must be aware that this year we will be having the as-usual full-fledged domestic season for all age groups, and the games will be hosted all over the country," Ganguly's letter read.

"It is really heartening to see the support that the BCCI has received from all its members over the past few years. I am sure the pandemic is behind us, and we all now look forward to a more certain future," Ganguly added.

It is for the first time that BCCI is conducting full-fledged domestic series after the Covid-19 outbreak in early 2020. All multi-day tournaments are also to return to the traditional home and away format.

The Hardik Pandya-led Gujrat Titans had won IPL 2022 title in their debut season of the cash-rich league.
