Mohali: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Punjab Kings is about to change head coach, parting ways with Anil Kumble after a three-year journey together. The team reportedly met Eion Morgan, Trevor Bayliss and a former Indian team coach, among others, to replace Kumble, IANS reported.
Kumble became the head coach of the team before the 2020 season and stood with the team for three seasons.
But in all those three seasons, the franchise finished in the lower half of the points table, fifth in 2020 and 2021 and sixth in 2022. In the first two years, there were only eight teams, but ten in the last year.
Kumble was the fifth chief coach in five seasons, serving the franchise after Sanjay Bangar (2014-16), Virender Sehwag (2017), Brad Hodge (2018) and Mike Hesson (2019),
Certain reports on social media suggested that Punjab Kings met England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan and former Sri Lanka and England head coach Trevor Bayliss to replace Kumble. While Morgan has recently retired as England white-ball captain, Bayliss has vast experience of caching both at international and Indian Premier League and had guided Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title twice, in 2012 and 2014.
